Dubai-How to find perfect accommodation for your budget
You probably think: accommodation in Dubai is super expensive. And let’s be honest: Dubai can be expensive. For most of us, the standard of living there is way above our standard which makes Dubai a hard place to visit. Especially if you’re traveling on a budget. Thankfully, I had a friend who accommodated me there in her apartment, so I avoided one of the biggest expenses while traveling: accommodation expense.
But hey, guess what? Even with the city being expensive, it turns out that with the accommodation in Dubai you can get a pretty good deal. I know what you think: easier done than said, ha? Well, for all of you non-believers, I decided to make a small research. Not only that: I calculated how much money approx. you will spend for accommodation in Dubai.
To make budgeting as realistic as it can be, I used Booking.com and I’ve searched for the accommodation for the 7 days in December 2019, from Saturday, 7th of December until the following Saturday, the 14th of December. Why December and why this part of the month? Mild temperature and fewer crowds than usually make this part of the year perfect for a visit.
Important criteria when choosing accommodation in Dubai
Of course, I had to put some criteria for my research, and I decided that they are the following:
- The accommodation has to be for two people. Most people are traveling in a couple so I think that this is a must.
- The review score can’t be lower than 7. I find this level the lowest you should go. You’re flying so many kilometers and you don’t want to be stuck with some bad hotel. Reviews are your best friends.
- Breakfast (at least) has to be included. Preferably, as you will see in the following text is good to have also dinner, but having breakfast will make your life easier.
Before we start anything, I want to make sure that you know that Dubai is a really big city and you can stay in one part and be more than 30 kilometers away from the other part. The following research is made to show you how much money will you need for accommodation in Dubai for 7 nights in 4 different parts of Dubai. So, let’s dive in, shall we? 😊
Just on the first click, we can observe a very interesting fact. Mövenpick Hotel has a serious difference in prices depending on the location. Between their hotel on Jumeirah Beach and the one located in Al Mamzar, the price difference is more than double! This can show you how significantly location adds to the price. Jumeriah is a more luxurious area but be aware that it is not so close to the city center. The review scores are quite similar and it’s only up to you what are you going to choose.
But first things first, let’s explore all areas where you can stay.
Bur Dubai and Deira
If you chose to stay in Bur Dubai or Deira, you will most probably pay less then staying in other parts of Dubai. Situated opposite to each other, these areas will most probably give you the lowest fares in Dubai. Mostly inhabited with regular working people, these areas are miles away from all the luxuries you will see in the rest of Dubai. But that doesn’t’ make them bad. Quite opposite. This is indeed the place where real hard-working Dubaians are living. Here you can experience Dubai how it was before the expansion. Deira is a little bit more modern and offers more options for restaurants and bars, but both places are the heart of Dubai how it was before.
You can easily reach the city center by public transport and in the first two cases, on the day I searched the page, for additional 100 euros you can add dinner and make your life (and budget) a lot easier. In my opinion, this is an excellent option because the food will add significantly to your expenses. With this, you covered most of your meals and you need only to worry about your lunch.
On my list is also Samaya Hotel Deira, which is more expensive but it’s there just to show you that there are more expensive options even in this area. Although, good thing is that dinner is included.
The center of Dubai is the best place if you want to be near Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and to some of the best rooftop bars and restaurants. But this will significantly affect the price. The cheapest option I found was around 1000 euros, while most of them will go way above that price. You even have the opportunity to sleep in Burj Khalifa. Armani Hotel (designed by Armani) is located exactly there but you will need to pay for this more than 4000 euros.
Dubai Marina and JBR Residence
If you’re looking for some more luxurious neighborhood, Dubai Marina would be the best choice for you. This young and vibrant area is home to so many restaurants and bars so you will have plenty of options to choose from. But the prices are following this lifestyle. For the same period, the cheapest option was California Hostel Dubai Beach for almost 400 euro for two people. For this money, in Bur Dubai, you get a hotel and here only a hostel. The cheapest option I found for a hotel was Wyndham Dubai Marina for around 800 euros. The mid-range hotel in Dubai Marina goes above 1000 euro and for some high luxurious experience, you will pay around 2000 euros.
This part of Dubai is the most westernized place in Dubai with a big number of expats living there. It’s a place with a lot of content including many restaurants, rooftop bars and similar. Bear in mind that Dubai Marina is quite far away from the rest of the city and you will lose a lot of time traveling.
Palm Jumeriah – When the money is not the problem, and the budget is unlimited, Palm Jumeirah is your choice. It’s home to one of the most popular hotels in the world and the famous replica of Bahamians one: Atlantis. Prices are going above 3000 euros for the same dates and this is indeed a place only for non-budget travelers. But as you can see below, it’s possible also to find a hotel for around 1000 euros. Despite that and the fact that this area is pretty famous, I’m not a fan of this location since it’s pretty far away from every landmark and transport connection is terrible. But I guess, who can afford a stay in this one, taxi money is not the problem? 😊
Is accommodation in Dubai expensive?
As you can see it’s not that expensive as I expected before doing this small research. For 450 euros you can have a hotel with breakfast and dinner included. I must say that it is cheaper than you would pay in some European capitals for only accommodation without any meals (yes Paris, I’m talking about you). Finding good accommodation in Dubai is not that hard!
In the end, it all depends on you. What is your budget, how much are you willing to spend, do you want to be in some more popular area and similar. Keep one thing in mind: all these parts are relatively far away from each other and you will almost always lose some time traveling. Dubai is just like that. It’s not the walkable city and it’s almost always too hot with a high level of humidity.
I would also like to point out another thing: you don’t have to be in the city center. Like I mentioned above, staying in Deira for example, will give a nice overview of a different Dubai that is not only skyscrapers.
The prices shown above are only for these particular dates and they are of course subject to change. But I do hope that this gave you a nice overview of how much money you need for accommodation in Dubai.
Is there anything else you would like to know about Dubai? A lot of more information you can find in my super detailed Dubai travel guide.
I hope you liked this post and if you’re thinking about going to Dubai, I sincerely hope this was helpful. For me, it’s important that you see that finding good and affordable accommodation in Dubai is fairly easy.
